FUN ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA ** Wellington State Park on the south end of the lake is a beautiful state park with a big beach, lots of walking trails on mild terrain, and a boat launch for public use.
** Paradise Point is a nature preserve run by the Audubon Society. It's just a few miles from our cottage, heading north towards the town of Hebron. It has nice walking trails, programs and displays. Eagles have been spotted there in recent years so you might get lucky!
** Mt. Cardigan is great for more rigorous day hikes and terrific views from its bald top. The road to the parking lot is around the south end of the lake.
** The Bread Loaves, which are the "bumps" you see across the lake from our cottage, are a less rigorous climb than Mt. Cardigan, and definitely worthwhile for the beautiful views of the lake. It takes about 45 minutes to climb to the top of the first "bump," making it a good hike for kids. Parking is at the south end of the lake.
** The Hebron Town Beach is at the north end of the lake and is great for kids as it has a very gently sloping beach. There are picnic tables and grills there. There is a beach pass at our cottage which may be used for this beach. ** "Sculptured Rocks," just beyond the town of Hebron, is a fun swimming hole. If you don't dare to swim there yourself, it's fun to watch the locals do so.
** The West Shore Marina on West Shore Road on the south end of the lake offers boat rentals. 603-744-2900
** If you enjoy fishing, Newfound Lake has some excellent smallmouth bass and lake trout fishing. You can fish right off of our dock! But be sure you have a license (unless you are under age 16, in which case no license is needed). The State of NH will issue licenses for 1, 3 or 7-day stretches or for the year. Check their website at wildlife.state.nh.us
** You can take a nice boat ride and learn about the lake through Ecotour, run by the Newfound Lake Regional Association. 603-744-8689
** If you like to bike, the road around the lake is a good, mostly flat’ish 20-22 mile ride. Be careful as there are some stretches where the shoulders are quite narrow.
** The Town of Hebron hosts fun family events and music on its town green weekly in July and August. Check the Gazebo Schedule at the town site: hebronnh.org
